I have finished my IDS project, you can see all of the videos documenting my progress. You can play the game at https://sillypotato999.itch.io/idsgame, although the website is blocked on the vsb network.
This week, when we worked on the IDS Project, we were able to get some things done. On Monday, we were able to import a model of our enemy into the game, although it still had a few issues. First, we needed to apply it to our enemy. Seccond, the method we are using for lighting only illuminates static objects, meaning our enemy was completely dark. It looked like a silhouette of the model we were using. On Tuesday, we were able to apply the model to the enemy, as well as fixing the lighting issue. We put lights around the enemy that only illuminated it and didn’t interact with anything else. On Wednesday, we didn’t get much done, apart from searching around for ways to make the enemy attack the player. On Thursday, we got the enemy to attack. We were able to get the debug log to say what the enemy was hitting. We are using raycasts to attack the player. This is explained in the second video on our ids project https://youtu.be/Xct4tXvW1ew. We are using an invisible Game Object that always points at the player, and then making it attack from there. On Friday, we were able to get the player to take damage, and when player health reaches 0, for it to display a message in the debug log. This means that we already have a working health variable that decreases when the player is damaged, so we can have a health bar. There will be a video released soon about what we were able to accomplish over the week. I believe we are still on track to finish our project by the 28th of January, we almost have all our core systems in place, so we can almost start making levels, and sound. Although sound isn’t essential, I feel like it would greatly improve the quality of our game. 3 things that need to get done to make the game better for the 28th are sound, level design, and animating the enemy. Apart from that I believe that our game has almost everything in place for it to be released.

This post will be about the progress Calvin and I have made to our IDS project. So far, we have done quite a lot of work. We have implemented movement, shooting, lighting, and basic enemies. We will make a video covering the lighting and basic enemies soon. Although this doesn’t sound like much, we have implemented almost everything that we need to start creating levels. We are on schedule, if not, slightly ahead. In the design cycle, we are in the creating, testing, and improving phases. We go through the design cycle every time we implement a new feature; however, we are always improving our code if we find a better way to solve the problem. In a week’s time, we expect to have a model for our enemy, get started with animating the enemy, and make the enemy able to attack the player. We will also make a video documenting the progress we have made over the past week. In conclusion, Calvin and I are doing quite well on our IDS project. We have made good progress, and we’re on schedule to finish before the deadline.
